You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavour? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. (Matthew 5.13)
Salt very much on the mind, or lack of salt.
While on post-Christmas chill-time in Cornwall, was enjoying favourite game of skimming stones across brill sea pool. Over-ambitious lunge on slippery side wall causes loss of AK centre of gravity and skid over the edge of pool- saved only by hooking feet behind pool rail – jeans wet torso just about OK. Scene witnessed by son Fred, unimpressed dog (4by4 retriever) and huge party out for morning stroll; AK usual composure on low side.
Wonder on squidgy journey home how sea pool walkway can be so slippery when full of salt water. Reminds me of famous adage “salt, salt, everywhere, but not a pinch for my chips”.
Back at work now, and usual new year sense of trepidation. Lot of days ahead. As Sue K likes to say first thing in the morning(!), “lots to be getting on with”. Bit scary. In fact scary enough trying to get down the hill before even making the office. Council definitely being mean with the salt.
Moved by report about Robert Park. Undertook a far scarier ice journey. On Christmas Day he walked across frozen Tumen River that divides China from North Korea; took letters to leader Mr Kim asking for change.
“If Mr Kim kills me in a sense, I realise this is better. Then the governments of this world will become more embarrassed. Until the concentration camps are liberated, I do not want to come out. These innocent men, women and children... as Christians, we need to take the cross for them.”
Robert Park is believed to have been arrested soon after reaching other side of the ice.
Robert Park is pure salt.
Pray F of JC please give all courage and strength to Mr Park to be your salt to people of North Korea.
New year time to get a fresh grip regardless of state of slippery pavements. Have salt of knowing Jesus, enough salt for me, enough to bring different flavour to life in this city.
Forgive me F for diluting the salt, for side-stepping you, for doing it my way.
Will I take the cross for the people who are part of my daily life, at work, after work, wherever, whenever?
With the Spirit of the Living G- I can, I am going to. looking forward to 2010.
Just help me get back up the hill first without any mishaps.
